Dear APEX Collaboration members,

This is the first of a weekly newsletter we plan to send out to update everyone on what has happened on APEX the previous week and what will happen the coming week. This will keep everyone in the loop and highlight priority tasks as we prepare for the test run in June 2010.

Summary of activities since collaboration meeting on 02/17/10:

1) The minutes of the Collaboration Meeting on 2/17/10 can be found at

http://ntoro.stanford.edu/APEX/wiki/index.php/Minutes_Feb_17
Additions and corrections are very welcome (anybody is free to edit the text directly).

2) We are constantly updating the APEX website (to be moved to JLab in the near future):

3) Collaboration Teams

Various teams have been created, and they have been assigned team leaders. We have suggested various team-specific priority tasks. The teams are strongly encouraged to use the APEX wiki (accessible by clicking on a particular team listed on the APEX website) to update and chart their progress and highlight priorities that require urgent attention.
The current teams are:
  • Detector. Leader: Bogdan Wojtsekhowski
  • Target. Leader: Kenneth Moffeit
  • HRS Optics. Leader: Vince Sulkosky
  • Septa and Beam. Leader: John LeRose
  • VDC High-Rate Analysis. Leader: Ole Hansen
  • Detector Analysis Tools. Leader: Ishay Pomerantz
If you have not already joined one of these teams, but would like to, please let us know.

Summary of coming week's activities (03/01/10-03/07/10):

1) Target design

Rapid progress on designing and building the target is essential. The SLAC group has taken on this difficult task, and it requires input from the optics and septa experts at JLab to finalize the target design. There's a target meeting this Thursday (let Ken Moffeit know if you would like to join).

2) List of Collaboration Members and Responsibilities

On the APEX website we have started a collaboration list with responsibilities. Please let us know if there are members that we inadvertently did not include on this list.
We will continue to define the collaboration teams and the members. If we have not contacted you already, we will probably do so soon. Of course, if you see something to which you would like to contribute, please let us know.
